Quantum Key Distribution

Our Quantum Random Number Generators (QRNG) are used in Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) systems for secure transmission of data.

Random number are used to generate a digital key that it used to encrypt the data. The key is transmitted to the receiver which can then use the key to de-encrypt the data.

The concept of using Random Number generators for encryption has been around for a long time and is widely deployed today. However, the security of tradtional encryption methods relies on using large random number such that it will take a hacker a long time to break the encryption. Furthermore, the random seed used to generate the random numbers is typically extracted from some electronics gates and is not truly random.

With the invention of quantum computers it is expected that traditional encryption will be broken very fast and therefore a new type of encryption is needed.

Because quantum processes are truly random by nature, they can be used to generature quantum random numbers that are truly random and can therefore not be predicted. Furthermore, if someone tries to interfere (read) a Quantum Key it can actually be detected and a new key can be sent.

Secure transmission of data is important in many industries but some of the first adopters of Quantum Key Distribution are Finance, Data centers and telecommunications.
